Wave
Made by Mariia Khas.
Shaped in one continuous movement. Tension caught in the form of a wave.
Made with Mitsuro Hikime (蜜蝋引目), a rare Japanese technique known since the Heian period (794–1185), when artisans used it to decorate Buddhist objects. It reached its peak in the Edo period (1603–1868) and nearly disappeared in the twentieth century, because every gesture of the maker is permanently preserved in the metal. Wax is mixed with rosin and stretched in thin layers — flowing lines remain on the surface, which in silver become a pattern resembling wind through grass, the grain of wood, water on sand.
