One of one. The jaw of a deity, chased in 999 silver.
Ochirvaani — Vajrapani — is the wrathful guardian of the Mongols: the protector of the faith and of the people who keep it. This sculptural jaw was made as armour for the artist's own face — chased and wax-modelled by hand, its form transferred anatomically from Mariia's features, the molar teeth carved as the fangs of the deity.
The piece answers Shaun Leane's jaw works for Alexander McQueen — an homage, resolved in Mariia's own technique and her own mythology.
